Richard (France): The first Imagination LP is the coolest and the most spontaneous of their albums. There is a kind of innocence in each song. Also, it is the musicaliest album with lots of solo keyboards (in 'Body Talk', 'Burning Up'...). It's also the first time that we discovered the fabulous Leee's voice especially on 'I'll always love you (but don't look back)'. All the melodies are very crystal clear. It's one of my Imagination's favorite LP.
Troy-D (USA): Just like for the rest of the world; 'Body Talk'
was the first product from Imagination here
in the U.S. . I felt it to be a decent first project
to get us familiar with their styles of R&B and
Funk. But it was only a taste of the potential
that the group (and the producers) had for the
future. The songs 'Body Talk' and 'In and out
of love' are very similiar with their dreamy-mellow
grooves. Which work well but
are a little too repetitious. 'In and out of love'
is my prefered of the two for the nice flowing
vibraphone/piano solos. The three songs
that stand out as very impressive were
'Burnin' up' (which on it's own, paved the
way for many of the NY club-style dance
songs heavily dominated with infectious
piano grooves.); ' Tell me do you want my
love' (this showed their ability to compete
in the commercial-pop market that was so
prominent at the time); And 'I'll always love...'
(which showcased Leee's singing ability,
along with their ballad writing strength)
The song 'So good,so right' was nothing
special for me, but it did help establish
the trademark sound for Imagination.
It was definately an album that kept me
interested for what was to come.
