Troy-D (USA):
In 1984, Imagination had a fourth release
in the U.S., the album 'New Dimension'
had been released as 'Scandalous' in
Europe the previous year. This album
is my 2nd favorite from the group because
this showcased what they had become.
An R&B dance and funk group with a
steady formula for writing good songs.
On this album, they show what they know
are their strong points. The first single
in the U.S. was 'Looking at midnight'.
I loved it immediately because it continued
where 'In the heat...' had ended. And the
album continued the flow. 'Point of no return',
'This means war' and 'State of love' match up
to their earlier songs 'Illusion' and 'Changes'. And the slow songs were
more diverse and creative with a more commercial appeal.
They broke away from the old formula on the older slow songs to show
different moods. I really love this album. For me this album
is Imagination. I had thought this would be
their most successful but I think lack of better
promotion and radio play had hurt sales.
Unfortunately the third single 'State of love'
was pulled before release. I still feel that
R&B radio stations passed on some potential
dance classics. Especially without exposing
the U.S. to 'Point of no return'. That song
was too great to go unnoticed.
